A Message from Jake:

On April 5, St. Louis County voters went to the polls and sent a clear message that they want an assessor who is fair, accountable, independent and responsive.

The County Assessor assesses the value of a family’s largest asset, their home.  Finally, our voices will be heard on what is expected from this position.

Below is an outline of my F.A.I. R. Plan to put St. Louis County families back in control of the Assessor’s Office.

Fair

  • When the value of your home goes down so should your assessment.
I will fight for fair, honest, and accurate assessments for all, whether your home is worth fifty thousand dollars or five million.
  • Protect Seniors.
I will fight to freeze property tax assessments for seniors because no one should live with the fear of being taxed out of their home.  If your income is frozen your assessment should be too.

Accountable

  • No drive by assessments.
Fair and accurate assessments require that the assessor step out of the car and examine every property.  There will be no drive by assessments on my watch.
  • Make it easier to challenge your assessment.
I will make the process for conducting assessments, and for challenging them, accessible and simple.

Independent

  • There is not a Democratic way or a Republican way to assess a home.
I am accountable to St. Louis County families, not the politicians.  Every assessment will be fair and honest.
  • Stop politicians from using assessments for backdoor tax increases.
Assessments should not be used to raise taxes and I will stand up to politicians who think otherwise.

Responsive

  • You will have someone answer your call.
  • You will have the opportunity to be heard.
  • You will have the direct number of the person handling your case.
  • You will have your concerns addressed promptly.
  • If you can't come to the assessor's office for answers, we’ll come to you.
We’ll utilize North and South county offices to make sure staff is accessible and responsive.
